The mission

In partnership with The South West Community Development Council (SWCDC), our mission was to support the rollout of the Healthier Schools@South West programme by making healthier living fun, relatable, and memorable for primary school students, while equipping educators with the tools to activate their school communities.

The programme sought to complement existing HealthierSG messaging, while addressing modern challenges faced by children, parents, and educators — including screen use, online harm, and changing lifestyle habits. Beyond awareness, the aim was to help schools translate health messages into age-appropriate, everyday actions that students could understand and remember.

The Brain Juice approach

We approached Healthier Schools@South West with the belief that health education for children works best when it is playful, visual, and participatory.

To anchor the programme, we developed a custom mascot, Sproutacus, who served as a friendly guide throughout the campaign. Sproutacus was supported by original illustrations, educational content, and interactive activities designed to spark curiosity and conversation around healthier habits.

Rather than relying on one-way messaging, we designed experiences that encouraged students to learn by doing. This included hands-on activities such as DIY shrink-wrap keychains featuring Sproutacus, allowing students to create something tangible while reinforcing key health messages.

To support educators and programme partners, we also developed a flip book of success stories and ideas, showcasing practical examples of how schools could activate healthier living initiatives in ways that fit their own contexts. This resource was designed to inspire replication and adaptation across schools in the district.

Together, these elements ensured the programme remained engaging for students, relevant for educators, and adaptable for scale across multiple school environments.

Our role

We were engaged by South West CDC to support both the conceptualisation and delivery of the Healthier Schools@South West programme launch and its subsequent roving activations.

Our role included:

  • Conceptualising the programme narrative and activation approach for Healthier Schools@South West
  • Designing the custom mascot, visual identity, and educational content
  • Developing interactive activities and hands-on learning experiences for students
  • Creating educator-facing resources, including the flip book of success stories and ideas
  • Planning and supporting the programme launch and multi-school roving exhibits
  • Working closely with South West CDC to ensure alignment with HealthierSG messaging while addressing contemporary issues faced by schools

Throughout the engagement, we focused on creating assets and experiences that were easy for schools to adopt, activate, and sustain beyond the initial launch.

Our impact

The Healthier Schools@South West programme saw strong engagement at both the launch and district-wide activations.

Key outcomes included:

  • Over 150 students and educators engaged at the programme launch, contributing input and building readiness for district-wide rollout
  • Thousands of students reached through roving activations across multiple schools
  • Positive feedback from educators and programme partners on the clarity, relevance, and usability of the campaign assets

“South West CDC engaged Brain Juice Collective to conceptualise and plan for the Launch of Healthier Schools@South West programme as well as a series of roving exhibits. Working with the team from was an absolute pleasure and a true success. From Day One, their commitment to our project was evident in every interaction we had with them, and they consistently went above and beyond, exceeding our expectations. The team brought fresh, innovative ideas to the table, and their exceptional action management kept the project moving forward with remarkable efficiency and clarity, with every step carefully planned and communicated. This proactive approach, combined with their ability to deliver an impressively quick turnaround time, was invaluable, especially when the launch date neared. We are incredibly grateful for their professionalism and partnership and would not hesitate to recommend them and look forward to the opportunity to work with them again in the future.” - Mr Low Min Chye (PBM), District Councillor (Healthier Schools@South West Team 2025)

By combining playful design with practical resources, the programme helped position healthier living as something approachable and achievable for young students, while giving educators the confidence and tools to bring these messages to life within their school communities.
